The Grappling Hook

The Grappling Hook (F to use) is used to climb up high vertical distances or to travel fast over horizontal distances.

The default Grappling Hook does not work well with very cold areas or ones with a high particulate count - attempting to use the hook in these areas can result in a very long reload time. Researching upgrades can resolve this.

The Self-Crafter

The Self Crafter (C to open) is able to produce a number of blocks and items from the currently held items and has some alternate recipes for some items.

This will also automatically craft blocks and machines that you have the materials for. For example, Torches do not require pre-crafting. As long as you have Coal available in your inventory, attempting to place a Torch will auto-craft.

Be aware that alternate crafting recipes are more expensive than using machines, and upcrafting is rarely efficient; it's just a good way to get rid of obsolete low-tier items.
